All I want for Christmas is a 10 inch Meade LX200R Telescope :)

Yep, I’m an astronomy buff. I’ve been looking to buy a new scope for a while now, but it has proved to be a difficult decision. I’m pretty sure this is the one I’m going to go with though. It’s big enough to see some friggen crazy stuff, yet light enough (only 90lbs, heh) to pack into my cars trunk to travel out of the city. Which is absolutly required if you live in a big city.

For those of you just getting started in Astronomy, be sure to check out CloudyNights.com’s Forum. It’s an excellent spot too get advice, learn about scopes, and see some incredible amateur photo’s, like the ones below which were taken with a 10″ LX200 and a 12″ RCX400. Both Scopes that I am looking at.

This is a great telescope. For what you get, the price is not an outrage. I saw one of these up close and personal in Oro Valley in an optics outlet. IMPRESSIVE, to say the least.

Nice! I had no idea you were a stargazer, Jarrod. I used to be on an email list from the Griffith Observatory here in La la land. One email announced an event where the featured speaker would be there with his “13-inch refractor”. Naturally, I had to reply to the email. “Is his refractor really 13 inches?” I asked earnestly. They took me off the mailing list. Funny things, those astronomers & their senses of humor…
