Independent Study - Ron Paul Has Most Positive Online Reputation

My buddy Andy over at MarketingPilglrim.com, recently released his 2008 Presidential Election Candidate Reputation Study, which shows Ron Paul as having the best online reputation.

While this study is pretty basic it is a great starting point for the kind of research I would like to see more of. Andy’s model consisted of taking the top 20 results for each candidates name in Google and Yahoo, then counting the number of positive and negative results.

While having the most positive top 20 results in a search engine isn’t an absolute gauge of a candidates reputation, it does say a lot. Some Candidates are paying millions of dollars to build positive online reputation through marketing firms etc.. we all know that isn’t the case with Ron Paul…

If you haven’t already seen it please view my recent analysis of website traffic trends for the presidential candidates with the most web traffic.

Yes, My Blog Sucks! - 10 Reasons Why I Bother Even Having One!

If you have spent more then a passing moment browsing through my blog, you’ve probably already figured out how awful it is. I mean seriously, the last time I wrote anything more then 50 words was when I was ranting about how I hate domain squatters (July 2006)…. btw I no longer hate all domain squattersthe ones you can get ahold of can be of great value. More talk about that later.
So why the hell do I even have a blog?

Well, for a few reasons.

  1. I already owned the domain name and figured, why not put something on it.
  2. I am a web developer from way back and figured it would be great to have a blog to play around with from time to time.
  3. I am an SEO, and there is nothing better then ranking #1 for your own name.. I mean come-on, how can I sell SEO services if I cant even rank for my own handle. Luckily it isn’t a very common name :) I would hate to have the name “John Doe”. Not that I couldn’t rank for that. I am one of the best damn SEO’s out there :)
  4. I love to write. And though I have no time to do it. It is one of the few things that keep me sane…
  5. I love to interact with people. One of these days I hope to have more then 2 members :)
  6. I love to keep a journal of things as I run into them.
  7. Someday I would love to go back in time and read through everything I wrote, putting it on a blog makes it real easy..
  8. If I ever have Kids, which I don’t plan on at the moment, I’m sure they would love to have a journal of my life, if I ever die :)
  9. I am internet marketer and having a recognizable name is one of the most important things.
  10. Why not have a blog, everyone else does…..

Unregistered Trademarks

I recently received the following question and thought it would be good to post on my blog, since it is a common one.

“Am I covered by trademark law if I do not include the ™ symbol on my Trade Marks, or if I do not register it through the U.S. Trademark Office?”

The answer is yes.

Although it is a very good idea to “Announce” your trademark through government agencies as well as use proper symbols on any media that contains your mark, it is not necessary in order to be protected. It is however harder to enforce a trademark if proper announcements havent been done. It basically comes down to being able to prove that you had an unique idea first and that the other party was aware that it was unique when the infringement occurred.

At least that is my interpretation of it.

Here is a site that covers the topic in detail. http://www.ggmark.com/guide.html

Here is one section that speaks about Unregistered Marks

Technically, providing notice of rights in unregistered marks is optional, but the prevailing wisdom is that such notice should be employed. Such notice is consistent with the rationale underlying proper trademark use, and enhances a mark’s source-identifying function. Notice of rights in an unregistered mark, consists of one of the following notations, usually appearing above, and to the right of, the mark in which rights are asserted:

(TM) for an unregistered trademark; and,
(SM) or ™ for an unregistered service mark.
